These two sentences reflect the idea of living life easy. I was shocked when I first read this because I would never think of leisure/rest as a conflict in any way. I mean in a way it could be a problem because that time could be spent doing a productive activity. If it meant earning money to raise a family, then leisure would not be beneficial.
However, times are different now. People are always running around, whether it is running errands, going to work/school, or meeting someone for lunch. Obviously, we look forward to some kind of "rest" in the day. It's a really good time to reflect on the past and think about the future.
Life is not easy. And taking "life easy" (in my opinion) is not worth living.

I like how you looked at this quote. When I first read it, I looked at it as Americans are lazy. Sometimes it seems like we like to just sit back and wait for others to get the job done for us. But now, after reading your post, I agree that sometimes we do need to just sit back and take a moment out of our busy lives to take everything going on around us in.
ReplyDeleteFor the most part, I would agree with your statement. Yet, it was the last sentence that really struck a cord with me. You mentioned, "taking 'life easy' is not worth living." I disagree. To me, the only thing that makes life worth living is the time spent with friends and family and the time spent for relaxation and pleasure. People today are very caught up in the busy, fast-paced life style they lead, and often they forget to devote time to leisure. In my opinion, the only reason to partake in a stressful and busy lifestyle is to reap the benefits of financial freedom, and then to take advantage of easy living. Life requires a great deal of balance between work and play, and I think one would find, in most circumstances, that someone partaking in only the work half would never be truly happy.
